State Settles Open Records Case with GCO Member

The State of Georgia has settled an open records act complaint filed by a GCO member and the owner of Georgia Packing.Org.  In the litigation, sponsored by GCO, the plaintiff had requested certain documents from the Department of Public Safety pertaining to the application form and process used for Georgia firearms licenses.  The State denied the existence of electronic copies of these documents.  When the plaintiff later found out the documents did exist electronically, and contacted DPS, they acknowledged the documents’ existence yet still continued to refuse access despite the Ga Open Records law, he commenced the action with support of GCO.  The State now has provided the documents requested, and has agreed to pay for the plaintiff’s court costs and attorneys’ fees.
