Carroll County Restrictive Firearms Discharge Ordinance
Carroll County recently adopted a restrictive firearms ordinance that keeps people who own ten acres of land from ever discharging firearms on their own property. It bans the discharge of firearms “700 feet as set back from any residence, place of worship, school, or public gathering place” and purports to force current owners of a “firearms facility” to seek permission from the county Sheriff to continue shooting, in direct violation of Georgia’s Shooting Range Protection Act, O.C.G.A. 41-1-9. Commissioner William Head, of the Temple District, introduced this measure.
Representative Timothy Bearden, who represents Carroll County in the General Assembly, will be addressing the Commission on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at its 11:00 a.m. meeting. The next public comment period is Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at 6:30 p.m. You may reach the Carroll County Commission via telephone, letters, and emails, by clicking here.
