GCO has filed lawsuits in federal court against the probate judges of Cobb and Cherokee counties, for violations of the federal Privacy Act (related to SSNs) and for violating Georgia law (related to employment information) in conjunction with GFL applications.  The Cobb complaint may be viewed here:

GCO wrote a response to the AJC editorial that attacked GCO as having a “dangerous agenda.”  The AJC editors did not see fit, however, to print the response from an organization it attacked.  The response can be viewed here:

As I announced at the GCO Summer Luncheon, I am forming a fundraising
committee that will have representatives from all the areas Listed at the
end of this post.

I plan for us to meet in a central location (most likely Warner Robins)
about once a quarter on a Saturday to discuss fundraising efforts and ideas
plus eat some chow and chew the fat a bit. All other communication will be
via email or phone. Each FO (Fundraising Operator) will be responsible for
contacting businesses in their area to request and pick up donations as well
as hand deliver Letters of Appreciation following an event. No experience is
needed, I will train anyone who wants to give it a shot. Folks with some
sort of sales background/experience make excellent fundraisers since
basically what we are doing is selling the donor on GCO. The main
requirement is enthusiasm. FO’s will also assist with fundraising ops at
events such as displaying auction items, recording bid information, selling
raffle tickets, running a fundraising game and other assorted duties. There
will be times when you will go weeks without really doing much and times
when it seems you don’t have enough time to do all you want to do. That is
where having a committee of fundraisers will come in. We will back each
other up and work as a team to meet our goals.

If that sounds like fun to you then you are as deranged as I am and should
fit in well. If you want to give it a shot then PLEASE, let me know and send

Gun in parks: Law-abiding citizens aren’t out to harm others

The editorial “Guns, parks don’t mix”, (@issue Aug. 23) fails to recognize the distinction between law-abiding citizens and criminals. It’s as clear as the difference between law-abiding, legally licensed drivers, and drunken drivers. Perhaps automobiles should be banned from areas where children and families are present.

On the same day it was served with a summons and complaint from GCO for refusing to repeal an ordinance banning the carry of firearms in its parks, the City of Milton repealed its ordinance.  GCO has filed a motion to drop Milton from the case, in which Fulton County and the cities of Roswell, Sandy Springs, Atlanta, East Point, and Union City will remain as defendants.  The letter from Milton’s attorney notifying GCO of its vote, and GCO’s motion, can be viewed here:

Georgia Carry is a gun rights organization that is on a mission to do away with conflicting and confusing local gun regulations.

“Kennesaw’s mayor said that they need the law to protect children playing. As though someone who is intent on doing harm is going to worry about violating a city ordinance, but not about ignoring state laws against kidnapping and murder. It doesn’t make any sense,” Monroe said.

“If you have places that ban the carrying of guns, then what you have done is created ‘victim disarmament zones,’” Monroe said.

GCO member Ben Bryant is a former Army Ranger and DeKalb County businessman who published an editorial today in the AJC that cogently states why Georgians should not be denied the right to keep and bear arms while visiting local parks.  Thanks, Ben!

So starts the editorial by Maureen Downey on the AJC editorial page today.  The editorial frankly admits that children have died in local parks to criminal violence in spite of local gun bans, but she calls on local governments not only to continue their useless bans in violation of state law, but to fight GCO with litigation.  GCO wonders whether she will pick up their legal expenses for fighting a clear state preemption law.  GCO also wonders whether she would urge local governments to fight against other civil rights.
