Banning Guns in Church Does Not Stop Crime

Leaving church attendees utterly defenseless has never stopped a violent crime in the state of Georgia. Very few states criminalize the carry of firearms in church. Georgia does, but a law banning guns affects only the law abiding. As the Savannah Morning News reports, two armed robbers burst into a church with shotguns on Sunday morning and ordered the people present to lay on the floor, collecting valuables. Only fifteen people were present because the robbers were too stupid to know that this particular church worships on Saturdays, and nobody was injured. One robber was caught “with a considerable amount of crack cocaine.” Why should church-goers in Georgia be at the mercy of people like this? It is time to repeal O.C.G.A. 16-11-127.
