SB308 & SB291 Await Rules Committee Action

The House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee met this morning and voted 9 to 5 to pass SB308 favorably to the Rules Committee to schedule a hearing on the House Floor.  Senator Mitch Seabaugh and Representative Billy Horne, (R-71 – Newnan) presented the substitute bill.

Yesterday, SB291 passed the Public Safety Committee and is also headed to the Rules Committee.  This is an NRA backed bill and is better than the law we presently live under.  It is not as comprehensive as SB308, but is still a good bill.  Details can be found on GCO’s Current Bills Page.

We still need to contact and urge our Representatives to support or to continue to support SB308 and SB291.

Criminals are cowards and will avoid any evenly matched situation.
If they know we (law abiding citizens) cannot carry on MARTA, Restaurants or Bars or near a Campus it will be easy pickings.

Keep up the support and make your views known.

but we can carry on marta as hb 89 made it legal to do so

  3. therock Says:

There are those in the House that have issues with it.

Carry on MARTA has been legal for permit holders since July 1st, 2008.

Thanks for correcting me. It’s just that in the Judiciary committee Rep said he would not vote for 308 in the house if it still had language allowing carry on Marta.
    So I dunno?

291 passed today, when does it become Law? They stopped until Thursday before getting to 308.

SB291 SECTION 4. This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.
