Consistent with the decision of the Court of Appeals in this case, the superior court has found the ordinance to be unlawful and preempted by state law.

HB 89 is on its way to the Governor to sign.  Beginning July 1, it will no longer be a crime for GCO Members to bear firearms in restaurants that serve alcohol, State Parks (and the buildings thereon), Wildlife Management Areas, and on mass transit. This victory would not have been possible without the diligent efforts and leadership of GCO members Sen. John Douglas and, of course, Rep. Tim Bearden.

After the bill passed, Rep. Tim Bearden stated that your contacts made a difference on Friday when the situation appeared bleak.

Carjacking and Kidnaping at K Parking Deck – Suspects arrested and victim uninjured

On Friday, October 26, 2007 at approximately 2:45 pm Georgia State University Police received a report that a carjacking occurred in the K Parking Deck.   At about 12:00 pm a female GSU student was approached by two black males displaying firearms and taken off campus.  The victim was forced to withdrawal money from several ATM Machines.  The victim was released unharmed and was able to flag down a DeKalb County Police Officer.  DeKalb County Police later arrested both suspects.

The victim described the suspects as two black males; one suspect wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and the other wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.  Both suspects were wearing black baseball caps with a ‘NY’ insignia.

Obviously, Georgia’s felony gun ban did not stop these two armed robbers from bringing guns into the campus parking lot.  Such bans stop only the law abiding.

I wanted to thank you again for your attention to the matter of Woodstock’s preempted firearms ordinance.  I did sign up for the Email updates on the city council meeting agendas and minutes.

I’m a member of a grassroots gun rights organization called GeorgiaCarry.Org that is dedicated to protecting the rights of all Georgians.  You can find our web site at:  http://www.GeorgiaCarry.Org   There you will see that several other counties and municipalities have been much less willing to work on getting their codes and ordinances up to speed with regard to state law.  We are also working to streamline the Georgia Firearms License application processes in the various county probate courts and to clarify, liberalize and simplify Georgia’s convoluted firearms laws.

You can help us recruit more members by spreading the word about our organization. We currently have 2 options available: a flyer that you can print out or GCO business cards that you can request to receive.
You can give them to friends, firearm dealers, gun ranges, and any other place you think people might me interested in learning about GCO. Do you visit a gun store often? Ask them if you could put GCO business cards out on the counter.

The flyer file is 2 pages and designed to be printed on both sides (the first page is info about GCO and page 2 is a membership application). The flyer requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you have trouble printing because of margins: When you hit the print button, the printer properties page will pop up (where you can select which printer you want to print to). Under “Page Handling” just below where you can select how many copies you want is “Page Scaling”. By default that is set to “none”, hit the drop-down box and choose “Fit to Printer Margins”. Then hit “OK” to print.
