Last night, the County Commission voted unanimously to repeal its gun ban in parks, adopting the language GCO suggested. GCO wishes to extend a special thanks to Chuck Turney, who spearheaded this effort on behalf of GCO over several months.

A copy of the amendment is here.

To the best of GCO’s collective knowledge, this now leaves only six counties in the entire state that have such a gun ban ordinance on the books.

Lee County had it’s first reading of an ordinance to repeal it’s gun ban today. The amendment would ban only discharge unless “otherwise authorized by law.” The vote for repeal is expected to take place at the next meeting.

Thanks to GCO member Chuck Turney for spearheading this effort and speaking at the public hearing!

Thanks to the GCO members who drove hundreds of miles to attend the hearing!

This now makes two counties that have voluntarily repealed their gun bans and one county in litigation. Gwinnett County is still trying to make up it’s mind. Let’s end 2008 with no county level gun bans in the entire state of Georgia.
