Georgia 2nd Amendment

The 2nd Amendment is under constant attack and GA2A, Georgia’s no-compromise voice for gun owners, is leading the fight to safeguard our constitutional rights.

For years, GA2A has served as the voice of Georgia’s gun owners by pushing for the repeal of ridiculous and unconstitutional Georgia Weapons Carry License (GWL) regulations, championing the undeniable right of law-abiding Georgians to safely carry a firearm at public universities and restaurants, stopping the financial services industry from discriminating against firearms owners and businesses, and standing firm against laws – and lawmakers – that undermine our gun rights.

While proud of our progress, there’s more work to be done. That’s why GA2A is proposing a bold, robust policy agenda for the 2022 Legislative Session. “Shield The 2nd” includes efforts to:

• Stop state, local governments from restricting the legal purchase of firearms during an emergency
• Support “permitless carry” in Georgia
• Clarify “Campus Carry” language defining firearms, locations
• Safeguard the ability of law-abiding citizens to obtain a GWL quickly and easily • Empower enforcement of gun auctions laws
• Stand firm against any legislation that infringes on the 2nd

Amendment Seized Firearm Auction Enhancement
GA2A will pursue legislation that allows for seized firearms to be auctioned for profit by local law enforcement to qualified gun owners in a timely fashion.

Support “Permitless Carry” Legislation
Twenty-one states allow law-abiding citizens to carry a firearm without having to obtain a weapons license. It’s time for Georgia to join that growing list of states that truly honor the 2nd Amendment.

Consistent Definition of Firearms on Campuses
By clarifying the legal description of firearms and weapons that can be carried on campuses, we can remove unnecessary and duplicative restrictions on where and what type of weapons or teaching aides can be possessed by law abiding citizens.

Expansion of Weapons Carry License
To make GWLs more accessible, GA2A will push for legislation that will establish a state standard for obtaining a WCL, guarantee that anyone who meets these standards receives a GWL without delay, streamline the state’s GWL revocation process for probate judges, prevent multijurisdictional GWL databases used to track firearm owners, and force probate judges to establish consistent timelines for GWL approval, license delivery date, and renewal schedules.

Protect the 2nd Amendment in Emergencies
Legally purchasing and lawfully collecting firearms should never be restricted. GA2A will seek legislative protections to prevent the Georgia state and local governments from closing gun stores in the event of an emergency.

Through GA2A’s “Shield The 2nd” legislative agenda, we can ensure that the rights of Georgia gun owners are protected and our constitutional rights as Americans are reflected in Georgia law.
